I know what you're thinking, fish oil on your face? Pinching your nose?! I totally understand, this is only a bedtime ritual or at least it should be, but a worthy one. Here are the reasons why:
Reduced appearance in wrinkles (more on that later)
Increased hydration Omega 3 fatty acids relives dryness, Dr. Robert Tornambe wrote in the Huffington Post "Fish oil for the face? The New Anti-aging Phenomenon". I've written on my Instagram "skineuro_" about the article expressing it's not actually a phenom but has been used for a very long time as a "Ball-on-a-Budget" way to care for skin in one step sort of way providing skin with most of what it needs excluding Sunblock so, let me continue.
For those suffering with inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis...excema, and psoriasis, studies show with nightly use skin clears up in 1-3 months. Other benefits are smoother appearance, reduced UV damage, and strengthen collagen. Now, back to wrinkles, years ago before I started my own practice I had a forty four year old woman come in for a Radio Frequency skin tightening treatment who during the consultation told me she smokes cigarettes everyday a habit she began at 16 years old. Almost with shame or embarrassment, (perhaps both) she explained that most of her life she was clueless about skincare products or how to care for her skin properly but somehow for reason unknown began habitually applying fish oil to her face and hands on a daily basis. My mouth literally gapping in utter disbelief. I listened as she continued telling me of the friend she started smoking with as a teen and how this other person looks now. Pausing mid sentence she asked if she had done or said something wrong because of my silence. Damn it! Ugh.... forgot to put on my professional poker face. I smiled, shook my head no forcing my lips to pose a couple of questions "You're how old?" and "You're sill smoking?" she repeated her age of forty four and she indeed still smokes. She looked FLAWLESSLY! Plump and glowing, smooth, wrinkle free with a soft texture and older than I had imagined upon greeting her, as I tend to make snap judgements about skin due to my work. Her friend however, was never let on to the skincare secret and as she started early looks horrible and covered in wrinkles. One would can only assume they're not BFF's.
